Not to be a Debbie downer but we are officially entering the final stretch of the regular season and boy does that bum me out. Don't get me wrong I love March madness but as we enter the days where there are fewer and fewer games on I slip into my true seasonal depression where were the time July hits I'm rewatching Derrick Henry's angriest runs for the 30th time just praying to see if the CFL will start early to get a taste of football. As we enter this final push let's take a look at the teams that appear to be true contenders, who should be happy to make the playoffs, and who needs to be diving deep into tankathon.
Super Bowl Hopefuls
This category is comprised of two teams from each conference as it has become abundantly clear that there are four top dogs across the league. America's darling (threw up typing that) the Detroit Lions continually find ways to overcome adversity and win games. This team has Detroit finally on the map for something other than bankruptcy for what feels like the first time in 15 years. Dan Campbell has created a culture of grit and resiliency is this team looks like a true Super Bowl contender, which makes their inevitable playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers all that more sweet. Even with the fans destroying them after WINNING a game the Philadelphia Eagles look like they just might tush push their weigh into a Super Bowl appearance as we have a society continually doubt and criticize jalen hurts even though all the man does is win games. Couple that with this years MVP Saquan and pending head coach going postal the Philadelphia Eagles pose a real threat to win the Super bowl. Josh Allen might be the coolest man in America; he has a rocket arm, a Hollywood fiancé, he runs over linebackers, and an entire city prays to him every night before bed. Even with the defense struggling against the Rams last week the bills may finally get the monkey off their back and not just appear in Super Bowl but win at this time. It only took two years and a significant amount of money lost to stop betting against the Kansas City Chiefs as they may look like the worst one loss team in NFL history but they always find a way. I don't care if this is a .500 team I've learned my lesson and refused to bet against Patrick Mahomes. An honorable mention is the Vikings as they have looked awesome but in the back of my head Sam Darnold could turn into a pumpkin.
Could Make a Run
This may be our largest section of the ranking system as each team looks like they could make a sizable run with the playoffs but must find a way to address some serious issues if they helped to dethrone any of the four at the top of the list. The Packers, Seahawks, Texans, Ravens, Commanders, and Broncos all have the potential to make a realistic run deep into the playoffs if they get a few bounces going their way or the Kansas City Chiefs treatment from the refs. These teams stand a good chance of making the playoffs barring a hilarious collapse and the majority of them have a young core that they can build off so the fan base needs to celebrate their success even if it isn't a Super Bowl. Teams like the Seahawks think their window may be closing when the reality is it was never open so if you do get a playoff win I have no problem with you treating it like it is the Super bowl. The biggest storyline in this group is will Lamar finally get over the hump and win a conference title game or will he continue losing to teams like the Titans.
Lets Just Enjoy the Run
While these teams may or may not make the playoffs let's just enjoy watching them while we can as we head towards the later end of the NFL season. The best team on this list has to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Baker Mayfield continually entertains and Mike Evans will remain on 1000 yard season watch until the very last game. These teams embody what it means to entertain the fans as they play fun and sometimes disgusting football and it can change on any given Sunday, heck sometimes it changes at halftime. Joins the box on this list are the Rams, Cardinals, Dolphins, Bengals, and Colts. Each team is fun in their own way, be it Anthony Richardson going 1-17 but that 1 is a 98 yard bomb or Joe Burrow throwing for 600 yards in a single game only for his defense to give up 11 touchdowns. They might not make the playoffs but boy do they play a brand of football that is pleasing to the fan.
Please put us and them out of their misery
Falcons and Saints, don’t even watch them at this point.
They have found their QB of the future
There should be no surprises on this list, the Panthers have failed their way upwards and found their QB of the future as Bryce Young continues to show that he may just in fact have that dog in him. He is a catch away from beating the Philadelphia Eagles and one satanic ritual away from upsetting the best team in the league the Kansas City Chiefs. I don't know what happened during his two week benching but he has completely turned it around and is playing a great brand of football. The other team should not be a shocker as the Cleveland Browns have given the world what they needed to heal during the tumultuous election season and that is Jameis Winston slinging the pigskin. Jameis plays football on like anyone else in one play can be one of the best passes you've ever seen while the next is a pick six you only see at the pop Warner level. At one point he was asking the Lord to deliver him from pick sixes and it seemed like it worked because he only threw 2 interceptions that were not returned for touchdowns the next game. I'm just begging the Browns to resign Jameis and do anything they can to get rid of Watson.
Couldn’t happen to a worse fan base
It's never fun to watch a team completely underperform and disappoint another fan base unless it's this group of teams. Bears fans were insufferable all offseason talking about how they have the best position for a rookie quarterback to succeed in and after starting out hot they were even thinking they had a realistic chance to make a run in the playoffs. Luckily the owners are some of the worst in sports history and that all came crashing down with an abysmal performance against teams like the 49ers were they managed a impressive 4 yards in the first half of that game. This offseason it will be exciting to watch them try and rebuild while hiring the 9th most popular head coach. Ironically America's team is probably the most disliked team in America and the Cowboys have yet again underperformed. You never root for injuries but you do root for this team to disappoint the people of Dallas year in and year out and lay clockwork they deliver yet again. Jets fans may consider utilizing ayahuasca to forget all about the Aaron Rodgers experience as he goes on Pat McAfee to blame anyone but himself. This may be the final straw that forces them to only root for the Mets moving forward. This one may be personal but I have never met a Raider fan it's an enjoyable time to watch sports with so watching them trot out their three headed monster of a QB room has been comical. Their only take away from this season should be that one random game where they were able to upset the Baltimore Ravens.
The city is probably nice
If you're a fan of this team living in that area it's important to focus on the bigger picture of life. I have heard that Nashville, Foxboro, and Jacksonville (this ones a lie) are enjoyable places to visit and there's plenty of you outside of athletics. Keep that in mind as you enter the final few weeks of the season and head into the offseason, you could be living in Cleveland pretending to be a Browns fan where that's the only thing you can watch come Sunday. Other than that there is not a ton of hope when looking at your football team and turning it around in the next two to three years. Pray you catch lightning in a bottle and have a miraculous run because that's about all you got.
These fans have it the worst
it's important to know this was saved for last as no fan base has it worse than the New York Giants. The team is not good, you let Saquon leave, paid Danny Dimes only to cut him, and have about 3 real NFL players on your roster. For all other fanbases within the NFL even when you are having a rough year taking the time and consideration to look at what's going on with the New York Giants should give you the perspective enough to appreciate how your franchise is handling themselves.
