Holy cow, we are more than halfway through the regular season and that depresses me. We are getting to the point where we understand who the contenders are, who’s frisky, and who is already preparing for the draft. This week takes us back across the pond as we start with a game in Germany and end our Sunday with the best team in the NFL in the Detroit Lions. Let’s look at our best bets and favorite plays from this week in football.
Giants versus Panthers
In a move that one can assume is done to kill the international interest in football we have Danny Dimes squaring off against Bryce Young in a battle of two-win teams. This game is perfect to be played this early as we can get it out of the way and simply keep our eye on the game without sitting down and watching it. I think this is the last week Daniel Jones is a starting QB in the NFL as Bryce Young extends his win streak to 2.
Best Bet- Panthers +6.5
Patriots versus Bears
The Patriots are actively trying to lose games and draft Travis Hunter, and the Bears just can’t win as a franchise. This is a game where an immovable object meets an unstoppable force as Drake Maye has looked decent and there is clear turmoil within the Bears locker room. Look for Maye to continue to improve and the Bears to show some flashes on offense.
Best Bet- Under 38.5
Bills versus Colts
Josh Allen can add to his MVP case this week even with Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper being banged up. The Bills are a sneaky 7-2 and the Colts are coming off a game where they failed to enter the redzone, a stat that is so bad it is impressive. Similar to the Bears there seems to be something off with the Colts locker room after the benching off Anthony Richardson and installing Joe Flacco as their QB. The Bills will continue to win and Josh Allen will build on his case (Lamar is still in the lead).
Best Bet- Bills -4
Broncos versus Chiefs
I still can’t get over Todd Bowels refusing to go for two with Patrick Mahomes on the other sideline. The Chiefs have the worst point differential as an 8-0 team but that doesn’t really matter as they make every big play they need. Bo Nix has looked good at times and a bust at other times, but this week expect him to bounce back. The Broncos have a strong defense and while the chiefs win it seems like all their games are close.
Best Bet- Broncos +8
Falcons versus Saints
Interim head coach alert as the Saints are starting the Rizzler as they fired Dennis Allen (Finally). Derrick Carr will do all he can to not send another one of his players to the shadow realm with a hospital ball across the middle and hopefully we will see more fight out of the Saints. Kirk Cousins continues to look healthy and Bijan and Pitts have shown why they were drafted in the first round and why Author Smith committed coaching malpractice. This is a don’t overthink game and hammer the over.
Best Bet- 46.5
49ers versus Buccaneers
It looks like we will finally see Christian McCaffrey back from his double Achillies injury and the 49ers are coming off a bye which means their real season starts today. Baker has been dealing as QB but he may be in a tight spot this week as his favorite option (some say his only) will be covered by Fred Warner. While the Bucs are still a frisky team the 49ers make their run starting this week.
Best Bet- 49ers -6.5
Steelers versus Commanders
I wonder how many votes Jayden Daniels has received for president. He has rejuvenated the Commanders fan base but will have one of his biggest tests as they play a very good Steelers defense. Russell Wilson will continue to show flashes of his old self as he has unlocked George Pickens and has the Steelers looking like a very competent team on offense. While the Commanders have every right to be excited about their future they may need to take a break this weekend.
Best Bet- Steelers + 2.5
Vikings versus Jaguars
It’s the return of the Mac! Mac Jones looks to be starting in place of an injured Trevor Lawrence and Brian Flores will make his life absolute hell. Rule of thumb, if this Viking defense can make an elite QB like Joe Flacco struggle then Mac Jones doesn’t have a chance. Sam Darnold and Justin Jefferson might just hit the over on their own as he looks to keep up with his good friend Jamar Chase.
Best Bet- Over 43.5
Titans versus Chargers
The Titans have the second worst special teams in NFL history. The Chargers broke their curse by bringing in the only man that could, Jim Harbaugh. This game will be so ugly it will be fun as the Chargers will try to run the ball against a very good Titans defense and the Titans may have quietly benched Will Levis as his “shoulder” is still sore. Expect a minimum of one special team or defensive touchdown this game.
Best Bet- Over 38.5
Eagles versus Cowboys
This game features two teams that couldn’t be trending in different directions. The Eagles weathered early season drama as their head coach shaved his head and yelling at his own fans. Turns out winning, and Saquan, cures all as the offense and defense seem to improve week to week. The cowboys lost Dak for a minimum of 4 weeks, Lamb is injured, and still don’t have a running back. Call me crazy but I think this is a perfect storm for a cowboys cover as the eagles treat this game as a look ahead spot.
Best Bet- Cowboys +7.5
Jets versus Cardinals
I may be dumb by saying this but the Jets have turned it around. The Cardinals are a decent team and Kyler is playing well but do not let them dominating a bad Bears team trick you into thinking they are world beaters. The Jets defense finally has a reason to continue to play hard and the Jets played the best half of the season to close out the Texans on Halloween. Wilson made two insane TD catches and Adams was finally involved in the offense making the difference for the Jets.
Best Bet- Jets -1.5
Lions versus Texans
I hate saying this, but the Lions are the best team in the NFL. Their offense has weapons at every position and if it wasn’t for Lamar Goff would be your MVP. They can run the ball at will, air it out, or lateral it to a lineman. The defense is flying around all over the place and making life hell for opposing QBs. On the other side of the ball I am starting to worry about CJ Stroud as his offensive line may get him murdered this year. He is lacking weapons at receiver and when they do get open he has no time to throw the ball.
Best Bet- Lions -3.5
