This season continues to be one for the history books and will continue to get better as we work through the games lined up for this action packed week 9 of College Football. We already had a major upset on Thursday night football with an 0-6 Kennesaw State team defeating undefeated Liberty for their first FBS win ever. Is this a preview for a weekend of chaos? I will tell you that the dawgs of the weekend took notice and will fuel their fire their matchups, and as they say “hungry dawgs run faster and fight harder”.

Friday Night Lights: UNLV vs #17 Boise State (10:30est Friday)

The G5 kings face off Friday night. This is our first playoff elimination game due to the fact that the winner of this game will most likely win the Mountain West conference and be the G5 representative in the new and improved 12 team playoffs. If you haven’t been following these two G5 Kings, UNLV has looked great this season especially on defense boasting a top 25 rushing defense. On the other side we have the Heisman favorite RB, Ashton Jeanty, who has put up video game numbers and is on track to break Barry Sander’s rushing yards in a season record of 2,628 yards. Jeanty has led Boise to a 6-1 record with their only loss being to #1 Oregon. Something has to break in this game, does Jeanty open the flood gates on UNLV’s stout rushing defense, or does UNLV become the first team to figure out how to limit Jeanty? Expect Boise to roll in this high scoring game and move up further in the rankings to solidify themselves as the G5 Playoff contender.
Best Bet: Boise State ATS -3.5 (-105)
USA USA USA! We love football and we love America here at Tailgate Talks and Navy has been on an absolute warpath this season. The new and improved Navy offense led by Blake Horvath who leads the team in passing and rushing yards and has 20 total touchdowns on the year, will face its first true test against the defense of Notre Dame. Never count this Navy team out against these blue blood opponents with how unique the offense is. As Notre Dame has a great defense and Riley Leonard seems to finally be getting comfortable in the offensive scheme, Navy and all the service academies are such a different team to play against due to their schemes and maneuvers. I expect this to be a low scoring rock fight as Navy will come to play as 13.5 point dawgs.
Best Bet: Total points under 51 (-110)

Oregon has a wagon rolling into town in the fighting Illini. Illinois is the type of team that is scrappy, confident, and will not let anyone they play escape without battle wounds. I will be the first to say, there is absolutely no reason the voters should have Illinois behind Bama and Ole Miss other than they believe and uphold the “SEC bias”. Dillon Gabriel and the Ducks have another big game with a ranked conference opponent coming to town and many eyes watching them. Although they seem to be unstoppable with their Heisman candidate QB playing at home, I believe this 22 point spread is a lot of points to cover against a team like Illinois. Expect for this game to come down to the 4th quarter and force Gabriel to have Heisman moments to pull it out for the Ducks.
Best Bet: Illinois ATS +22 (-110)

The top battle of the SEC this weekend is between an Aggies team with Mike Elko in his first year as their head coach, and an LSU team that has clearly gotten better every single weekend this season. As the only teams in the SEC without a conference loss, the winner of this game will secure the #1 slot in the SEC conference and the top contender for the conference championship game. Yet another game that can be considered a regular season playoff game. On the Texas A&M side, Elko, in his first season, could flip the script on the perception that the Aggies always crumble in big game opportunities. On the LSU side, Garrett Nussmeier, a dark horse Heisman candidate, has the ability to force his way into the conversation on Saturday night. Expect fireworks Saturday night with LSU pulling out the win because of the QB and WR play.
Best Bet: Total Points Over 54.5 (-112)
